With this second album the Four Fried Fish reach their artistic maturity. It’s dedicated to original compositions made by the two historical group leader, the guitarist and singer Flamiano Mazzaron and the organist and pianist Fabio Ranghiero. The project presents a remarkable stylistic coherence searching into the different faces of the modern blues.

The group follows three ways in the releasing of this precious album.

The first is that of the mainstream electric blues, that of Chicago, born directly from that of Delta. You can feel it listening tracks like “Call me, Little Sun” or “Doggy Style” or naturally the title track “Love can change everything”.

The second way is more funk with metropolitan sound echo of seventies like “Tear my mask”.

And the third way is the one we on Velut Luna label prefer that goes well with the new progressive American trend, that is a mix of classic blues and modern country style. “Going down” is the perfect synthesis of this style as the famous American singer Ryan Bingham released with “Mescalito” his wonderful debut album. It represented a perfect “brother in arms” in this wonderful crusade of the evolution of the great American folk music.

The recording is fully realized live-in-studio by Marco Lincetto and Andrea Valfrè, using both analogical and digital HD sound camera. It presents an extraordinary dynamics (for a disk of this music genre) together with solidity and considerable impact. You cannot putting up the volume while hearing this disk… until your wife or your next-door neighbours will come to cudgel you!

Finally....my mix!
I followed this basic rules: no guitar, no bass, no drums, but yes percussions and yes-sweet-sounds, yes games and not war.

Splash'n'Roll is the title of the second track that will accompany dips and swims of children in the DVD I want to talk about it soon that is going to be released. Surely it will be the latest track I'll play in this year full of work. Well also 2010 will be a year full of work! This track is very catchy and nice, simple and due to rock'n'roll (the title is taken from it). At the beginning it was a sound quite fast, so I was recommended to slow down... well I don't like it very much, but my first issue is to share the music with my blog readers and listeners. I've just told you something about the first two DVDs and I've just published all songs; the third, instead, is a “new entry”, a work I've made from July to September. But I want to tell you something about the DVDs when they will be officially published. Now I'm going to publish the tracks of the third project (I will make a summary as soon as possible). The major “theme” of the DVD is always the child and the water, or the child and the swimming. I've tried to play something catchy without giving up what I like. Wii Music IN CONCERT ! The video

Now's the time to present you this video, recorded in february, the 19th in Parma (Auditorium Paganini). Good music, good musicians and the software wii music. In this concert I presented one song based on four Nintendo DS (+ Guido Ponzini - stick - and Fulvio Maras - percussions) called "4.d.s.4.g." (here) and a "nintendo suite", a solo for acoustic piano (and the flute of Guo Yue) and a solo piano-wii (with Guido Ponzini at cello).

This year I'm inventing very much. I made most part of the material “on commission” (I remember the track for 4DS realized for Parma Wii Music Concert and the three “swimming in the sky” for the DVD “to swim with Giò Giò”). Now I'm still working on commission (these tracks are going to be published further on) but it can happen that something is not pleasing to everyone. No problem, I'm going to make you listen all I made, so here you are loop 8.
With the “loop” serie I've lost the count of them. I thing I miss loop n.4 (that is truly the “miniloop”) and loop n.7. Don't worry, it all adds up at the end!

During the whole March and the first days of April I have been very busy with the creation of an half-hour background music. It was a very demanding job granted under a licence to Marisa Battaglini (for commercial use). Of course with Creative Common Licence reported by the user. The background would be a part of a serie of video-lessons on swimming meant for children. So, when you listen to it, please have in mind these three words: background-swimming-children.
I've divided my work in three moments very different from each others. Here is the first one, the others will be ready in the next days.

The Loop series arrives at the third appointment. It’s quite difficult to find the right title of a track or a musical thought, mainly when this comes out not from a precise idea or feeling. When I record something I prefer to start from the silence and not to think at anything. Probably the result could be something less emotional. But all there is inside ourselves and that we don’t know probably comes out by this way . Can this blog be considered as a therapy? Who knows, in the meantime let’s go on my way.

The title is very symbolic…. let’s see if you can understand what this is about. Anyhow the track is mostly the one presented in Parma on the occasion of the WIIMUSIC live with GUIDO PONZINI. Of course this is the version I’ve made in my studio, without Amighetti, Ponzini e Maras (keyboards, stick and percussion respectively). I dare say that it “sounds” quite well. It’s a SOUVENIR for those who were there, and a find for those who couldn’t come!

I want to try something out. Nothing sensational, I will just present you the same track many times by mixing in a different way the tracks recorded. In this case the project includes piano, organ, violins, vibraphone and synth sounds. I have played every tracks following the leitmotiv but at the same time I have thought a variation of the harmonic rhythm of the same theme. “Idea” is the very first piano version, that is what I first meant. The development of this idea in three “parallel” tracks will be soon available.

Someone has drawn my attention to the fact that I use mostly a “minor” key in my tracks. With Loop 2 I want to give you something more, that is a composition of major chords, with two exceptions. I think that the result, the atmosphere and the impact give you a sense of “optimism”. Do you think so? Probably it’s just my artistic feeling, that is inured to sad minor keys.

I would have presented this mini track at Christmastime but alas, I failed. Now it’s ready even if is the Epiphany day!

It’s a miniblues, a part of a track that can develop with time. Last year I decided that this will be the year of bluesy and the tracks I’m going to present you will have this characteristic (I‘ve give up the electric sounds for a little time). Unfortunately I must admit that also this year will be poor of tracks as 2008. If last year was dedicated to FOUR FRIED FISH, this one will be dedicated to another plan that will carried out by November- December. Of course all depends on what will happen and on the time I will find to do it. Yes, this blog is becoming the postpone corner…
However enjoy this miniblues. I play this brand-new drums with a drum pad (do you like it?). Piano and Hammond are live without edit. Six hours of work. If you didn’t enjoy it or if you have some criticism please be free to write me. This blog has been born to do this!

Here is another track taken from the past, and exactly produced in 1995. Unfortunately I have lost the text, but I’m going to publish it as soon as possible. Unlike the other tracks taken from the past, in this one I’ve made no changes. I have only converted audio files into mp3 files. Of course the voice is mine, with a commonly used flanger effect. As usual I enjoyed bringing “harsh” sounds to classical ones. That is a strange mix, isn’t it?

If we keep unchanged the structure of the track, and whereas we change the sounds, we obtain a curious variation in "colour". In the track "Swimming pool", (presented last year) this variation is slight but it is worth presenting. I haven't simply changed the presets, but I have played again all the parts with the exception of the bass.

We’ve wriggled out! We7 has finally updated the site. The widget appears again so I can proceed with the streaming on this blog. Today I present you a track half electronics and half jazz. The band “Nuttin’ 2 Lose” comes from Toronto, Canada. The title of the track is “jazz in Gm” in Sol minor. The title is quite anonimous but luckily not the track you’re going to listen. The streaming and the free download of the tracks give the band some credits. I remember, as usual, that in this way you little grant the unknown artists.

Some curiosity.....

This is my little home studio, all you listen comes out from here. What are the strange equipment I use to create music? Here is a concise list for my fans happiness. First of all you can see the "pc" area. I use a Terratec's eight channel external FireWire sound card + 8 channel Audio mono and two MIDI for my pc. The software is CUBASE SL 3 with some VST instruments, in particular the greatest HALion Player for pianos. The master keyboard and the main sound desk is The ROLAND FP5 piano connected to a USB 2.0 port on the pc. I use an old TASCAM 4-track recorder, that is also a good mixer to control all processing inside the pc. This is the basic system with also two active LEM monitor 95 watt rms. Besides, I have got two SHURE SM58 microphones, one ROLAND VK88 expander Hammond, another HAMMOND C3 with a Marshall amplifier and a ROLAND for basses (trough HUGHES & KETTNER Rotosphere Leslie effect). Only for special events I can use the old but unequalled ROLAND D50 and the obsolete YAMAHA DX7. I can also use my old sequencer ROLAND MV30 that is still working well. I use it only for special sounds and mainly because I have got many floppy disk containing the old projects that I think I'm going to use and work out again for my future songs. Well, it's not a proper recording studio, but I assure you that I can do many things!

This week I will present you a great pop singer, Joy Walshe. I listened to her CD "Saint for a Sinner" last year and I liked it very much. Here is the first track of her CD, "home". I'm sure you will like all her songs. Joy is an English singer and is also a pianist and composer. Her songs are no genius peaks but very enjoyable and pleasant.

I’ve neglected my work with the Hammond for a long time. But now also thanks to a “revival” I want to present you a track based on that particular sound (however it is an emulator that guarantees a better recording quality). I want to go back to a good standard work by playing many tracks with this instrument and using the left hand for the bass. In this case there are no cuts. First I’ve played the drums with a drum pad (and played again by patterns) and then after few minutes I’ ve played live the Hammond-clone and the Rhodes-clone (I’ ve got two hands.... of course!)

Today I will make a deviation to our regular appointment of the week. I will present you a very famous track, “Lucky man” by Emerson Lake and Palmer using We7. In 1970 this super band was born. I listened to all his records several times. They made fantastic arrangements and great works. Now I will present you a light song to introduce you to this band that, on my opinion, met ups and downs even inside the same tracks. I want to confess that I really cannot bear the final part of “Lucky man”. I will remind you that if you listen to the streaming you will finance the artist with a some penny ( it’s like playing in the square to get some change, but here the square is the world). Come on! In this new page that is available from September I will suggest you to listen some tracks thanks to We7 and his “gadgets”, those flash windows from which you can listen the tracks in streaming. I’m going to follow some rules that are also easy to avoid. The tracks are necessarily on we7 (I can guarantee their legal reproduction also because I’ve just got many contracts with various artists). Besides this I will try to suggest you something new and unknown, that is no famous artists. I wish I would focus my attention on Italian artists, but alas, they are not so many! I and three or four persons are among the unknown …

Today I’m going to suggest you Alexander Bonivento. He’s an harpist and only who is registered can listen to his whole album made up of 16 tracks. You can free register on the site, listen all the tracks (also those of the famous artists), download the mp3, and also promote the unknown artists by voting their tracks. I immediately loved Alexander! Here is the track I fairly like, “ The cheerful procession of dwarfs”.

The saga of loops goes slowly. We miss n.4 but some days ago I realize that “loop4” became “prelude n.3”, so … the count continues. In this loop created in just an hour I’ve improvised a little. The result is no bad. You have surely listened much worse. Good listening!

The Podcast!

It's time to make news for the musical blog. From today my pod cast is working. What does it mean? You can download the tracks in your pc or in your IPOD more easily with ITUNES or similar programs, simply "taking out a subscription" to the pod cast. It's a new way to keep you up-to-date about the blog, a newsletter undoubtedly less invasive and free from the risk of "spam block" of your post programs. What does it work? I put two coloured buttons on the frame on the left. The first button "rss/podcast" contains the url you can insert in various programs covering the feed (i.e. "feed reader" is freeware) while the second "rss/pcast://" makes automatically the subscription on ITUNES. It's not difficult, you have to download ITUNES (dedicated only to music) or FEED READER (tested and working), directly from the links of the frame on the left. The subscription is free, even if you can offer me a pizza whenever you want (I'm thinking of making it possible!). Moreover, you can keep up-to-date about my post in the blog by pressing the "rss/feed" button. The proceeding is always the same, except for the ITUNES, that in this case does not function. Enjoy the reading and the listening. Do not be lazy, have always a look at the MUSICAL BLOG and comment my tracks.

In this track there's a little of everything. I dare say, a mix of something electronic (with the loop of the bass and the opening drums), funky (with the guitar), and blues (with the Hammond). It's a very hidden polyphony (the violins play three different tones) which has a general tune rather "mysterious". That's why I entitled this track "the secret reason".

The second appointment with the style of Electroplankton is called BLUE PLANKTON. After an easy introduction come out the problems at the bottom of the ocean. Today is a “musical blog day”. I’ve composed and mixed this track in a day (circa three hours). So it represents really a “ day musical thought”. The first important news for musical blog is a track made with the "Electroplankton Style". I use a NINTENDO DS to invent these tracks together with a musical game named 'Electroplankton'. I play it using a nib and moving the planktons on the screen. Are you a bit confuse? Well, I have no choice but to wait the next special dedicated to this new way to make music created by TOSHIO IWAI. The best way to listen it is to close the eyes and imagine to be underwater. The vague sounds mingle with definite notes. I've tried to help you inventing a marked reflection.

Mirror is a track recorded in 1995 which I have just edited again. I 've sung it again (I really have that faulty English pronunciation) and I've put in order some instruments (people who have listened the original version might find some differences). Naturally I have cleared and digitalized all tracks. Mirror is one of that unlucky CD entitled 'first world', which I gave to my friends some time ago. You can find other two tracks of this CD in the "audio" section of my site. I think that in the future I'll do the same work with the other tracks of the CD. Here it is the faulty lyrics!

Finally I’m publishing again some tracks! Six months or very nearly of hard work. After ‘catfish for breakfast’ has been served I’m doing again my job slowly.
But it was necessary to have a link between the blues works with Flamiano and my alternative music. Here you are So Long Dub Version, a very alternative version of So Long included in the CD. It’s a song that draws on some tunes of other works and, of course, it is released under the Creative Commons License.

It's quite difficult to explain how Ranghieronline.com fell into the trap of blog. This site is trying to keep a different diary. For people who are tired of watching TV, Internet, or reading papers, books, etc., here is an audio blog. The site provides a space where you read nothing (except a brief introduction), just LISTEN. You can listen many sounds, short compositions, or maybe, a perfect work of art! In this page you can find the diary's chronological sequence, and throughout the links you can download the tracks (or in case you can listen them directly) and write a comment. Who knows if something more complex can be created from those "thoughts set to music".
